This week, the legislation we’ve all been working so hard to oppose reaches the Senate. Every Coalition Senator who plans to vote for “Work Choices” faces a moment of truth.

To stop this bill from becoming law, there’s only one thing left to do. Pick up the phone and exercise your democratic right to personally speak with your local Coalition Senator.

Tell your Senator to take a short walk across the chamber and do the right thing by voting against “Work Choices.”

Ask to speak to your Senator in person. If that isn’t possible, politely specify to a staff member that you would like them to pass on a message to your representative. Let them know that you are a resident of their state. Briefly tell them why you are opposed to “Work Choices.” Finally, respectfully ask that your Senator act in the best interests of his or her state and cross the floor.

Once you’ve called, tell your friends, colleagues and neighbours in your state to do the same. And then go the Rights at Work website to tell us you’ve called so that other people can be inspired by your actions.

The Bill will be debated on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. “Work Choices” could be law by the weekend, so please call as soon you can. You won’t be alone – you’re one of hundreds of thousands of Australians who is taking action to oppose these laws.

Together, we can protect our rights at work.
