MORE EVIDENCE: SENIOR LIBERALS WANT WORKCHOICES REVIVAL
Wed Mar 19, 2008
The Parliamentary vote is just the latest in a series of clues that makes a mockery of Dr Nelson and Julie Bishop's "we do not support but would not oppose it" line on WorkChoices' abolition. Yesterday in his Press Club address, Dr Nelson stridently opposed the Labor Government's plan to restore unfair dismissal protections for all workers. He said "I say to the small business community . . . we feel very strongly about unfair dismissal provisions for small businesses." He defended the Howard Government's legacy, saying "we are immensely proud of what was achieved over almost 12 years". West Australian Liberal Don Randall hinted the Coalition are just biding their time. "Politics is a bit like judo, you give in and win." He hinted to reporters that AWAs and other planks of WorkChoices were not dead. "Anything could happen in five years, you know. You could have a different government after five years," he said. And Tony Abbott, who has a history of letting the cat out of the bag, revealed he is another Liberal holding a candle for WorkChoices. "The Howard government's industrial legislation was good for wages, it was good for jobs and it was good for workers and let's never forget that," he told reporters outside Parliament House yesterday. |
